Spitzweg's The poor poet.

I've always liked this painting. Apparently, three versions of the Poor Poet are known. The artist, Carl Spitzweg, who painted it in the 19th century, shows the poet, happy enough, counting syllables on his fingers but staying in bed to keep warm. It is thought that Etenhuber (1720-82), a poet living in impoverished circumstances in Munich, was the model. It reminds me of the time I lived in East Dulwich, in a room where the ceiling leaked incessantly.
